About ReelRoam

ReelRoam is an independent guide to using a VPN with the streaming subscriptions you already pay for — written to be honest about the fact that this does not always work.

ReelRoam covers one specific job: watching the streaming services you subscribe to — Netflix, BBC iPlayer, Disney+, Hulu, Prime Video and the rest — when a border or a trip gets in the way. We exist because most streaming-VPN advice is either wildly over-optimistic or quietly out of date, and both waste your money.

What we won't pretend

We will not tell you a VPN "always works" with a given service, because it is not true. Streaming platforms block VPN addresses constantly, so unblocking is a moving target. Every status and recommendation on the site carries the month we checked it, and we would rather say "this changes" than sell you certainty we cannot back up.

We also will not help anyone use a VPN to avoid paying. Everything here assumes a legitimate subscription in your own name. Using a VPN to reach a service is generally against that service's terms of use, and we say so plainly rather than hiding it.

How we make money

Some links to VPN providers are affiliate links, which means we may earn a commission if you buy after clicking — at no extra cost to you. That never buys a better ranking. As proof, we happily recommend Mullvad and Windscribe where they fit, and neither pays us anything. Full detail is on our affiliate disclosure page.

How we research

We are not a testing lab and we do not claim measurements we have not made. Our judgements draw on providers' published specifications and on reputable, dated coverage from outlets such as TechRadar, Tom's Guide, CyberInsider and Top10VPN, alongside each streaming service's own documented behaviour. When something cannot be verified, we label it rather than guess. Questions? Reach us via the contact page.
